Best Performances at the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

As American of a tradition as Thanksgiving itself, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been one of the most watched television programs in the U.S. since it’s debut in 1952. Every year, millions of Americans gather around their television sets the morning of Turkey Day and watch as balloons, floats, and celebrities perform along the parade route, and this year’s parade was no exception. We’ve put together the best performances at the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Sound of Music

Who doesn’t love a reboot of a classic musical about Nazi’s and children singing?! To be fair, this is actually a really great rendition of the classic song “16 Going On 17,” which was performed by the cast of the new Sound of Music starring, wait for it, Carrie Underwood.

Jimmy Fallon and the Roots with Sesame Street

Jimmy Fallon is about to have a huge year in 2014 as he looks forward to hosting the Tonight Show on NBC. But first, Fallon and his house band, The Roots, finished off their year by performing the with cast of Sesame Street in adorable rendition of “Somebody Come and Play.”

Kinky Boots

The cast of Kinky Boots (winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical) struck outrage on the Twitter-sphere after they performed one of the numbers from the show discussing “accepting yourself” and how people should just “be how [they] want to be.” Yes, most of the cast wore high heels and, yes, most of the cast is comprised of drag queens, but does that really make it so bad?
