The Stag-Hen Dos Perception Misconception

There you are, days out from sharing weddings vows with the person you’ve promised to spend the rest of your life with. The traditional stag and hen do is a rite of passage for those about to take the plunge into married life. One interesting question, though – what exactly does your spouse-to-be actually think you’ll be doing during your last night of your freedom?

In a recent survey conducted by Ladbrokes Bingo, 2,000 UK men and women were asked what they get up to and what they think the opposite gender gets up to during hen/stag parties. This is a brilliant case of expectation vs. reality with the answers widely varied.

44% of men believe that the hen do is ultimately a celebration of getting married. While this is inherently true, it also estimates nearly ½ of bachelorette parties are dull affairs void of entertainment. 34% of women believe the stag do exists solely to celebrate that last night of freedom.

37% of men reported that they believe women spend anywhere between £101 – £250 during their hen dos. Almost an equal amount of men, 35%, believe that women actually lie about how much they end up spending. 34% of women believe men will spend between £250 – £500 on their stag dos and 34% believe men will ultimately lie about how much money they burn through. What’s a proper party without a few extra expenses?

Then of course is the timeless tradition of strippers. Nearly ½ of women surveyed reported they definitely had no interest in strippers for their hen do, reporting in at 38%. Closer to this trend, 29% of men believed women hired strippers for the party purely on the basis of comedic value.

Nearly 32% of women believe strippers are an essential component to the stag party. In reality, 13% of men reported that they would never consider hiring a stripper to celebrate their last gasp of freedom.

What about the taboo of infidelity, giving the modern stag/hen do a black eye? 32% of men believe their fiancé will indulge a ‘last night of freedom kiss’ while nearly half that amount, 17% of men, believe their fiancé will actually sleep with another man.

On the other side of the aisle, 27% of women believe their fiancé will share a kiss and 15% believe they’ll sleep with another woman. One of the most disparaging trends across the board, 69% of women overwhelmingly their fiancé will never spill the beans.
