Traveling for business can be stressful and it can be expensive, especially if you are a freelancer and responsible for the costs. But luckily there are ways you can avoid spending a pretty penny and still have a smooth sailing travel experience.
Book in Advance
Sometimes you need to get on a plane last minute, but if you can, try to book your travel plans well in advance. This will usually get you a better deal on flights and rooms.
Look for Cheap Flights
It is well worth the time to search and look for deals on flights. Especially if you are just traveling a couple thousand miles, like flights from Dubai to Mumbai for example. You don’t need to spend the extra money to go all out and get first class since it is just a short trip. Skipping on unnecessary upgrades will save you a nice chunk of change.
Travel Light
It all depends on how far you are going and how long you will be gone, but pack smart. If you know you are going on a quick trip, try to keep it to only the necessities and avoid having to check in a bag, which can cost extra.
Stay at Close Hotels
Try to stay at hotels that are close to your business meetings. This way, you won’t have to spend a lot on transportation. You can either stay where you can walk to your destination or where an Uber or taxi will only cost a small amount. Even better, stay near a public transportation station like a subway to get to your meetings on a budget.
Eat In
Just because you are traveling, doesn’t mean you always have to eat out. Of course, you might have to dine out for your meetings, but when you aren’t doing that, try to stick to cheaper options. If you are going for a quick trip, pack some healthy snacks. If you are staying longer, hit up the nearby grocery store and stock up on fruit, drinks and other items you can eat in!
