Guilty Simpson
Hailing from Detroit, the lesser known artist off widely respected Stones Throw Records, Simpson has a tightly crafted baritone flow backed by some of the tightest production in hip hop world. A favorite MC of the hugely influential J Dilla, Guilty Simpson’s distinctly blue collar narrative touches on roughneck life in the Midwest.
Bishop Nehru
You know you’re doing something right when you’re collaborating with MF DOOM at the ripe age of 16. The mask himself has had nothing but high praise during their joint recording sessions to produce, ‘Nehruvian DOOM‘, which should ultimately put Bishop Nehru on the underground map.
One of the more widely overlooked MCs in the Odd Future collective in part to Tyler’s massive personality and Earl’s potent lyrical abilities, Domo is increasingly showing he has chops as a solo artist. Don’t let the OF affiliation sway you.
Vince Staples
Another MC who’s gotten a bump from artists like Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples could be on the verge of hitting it big. One of the more promising acts emerging, this talented young MC has already started making a name for himself among big crowds on tour with Schoolboy Q.
Flatbush Zombies
Formed in Brooklyn in 2010, the Flatbush Zombies are a composite of raw MCs Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick Arc Elliott. Drawing comparisons to some earlier Wu Tang, Flatbush Zombies instantly click with fans of early 90s hip hop.
