The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes places every Thanksgiving in New York City and this year the parade celebrates 89 years. This year’s parade is expected to be just as spectacular as recent years and will be hosted by NBC’s Today show’s anchors Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Matt Lauer.

Over 8,000 people participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and it will also air on television to over 50 million viewers. This year’s parade starts on 34th street, where casts from theatrical productions like Fiddler on the Roof, The King & I and Finding Neverland will perform, followed by a performance from the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.
Other musical acts scheduled to perform during the parade include some big names like Mariah Carey, Train, Jordin sparks, Andy Grammar, Pat Benatar, Shawn Mendes, Trey Songz and Plain White T’s. Questlove will also perform with special guests The Muppets of Sesame Street. Some other celebrities expected to make appearances include the cast of Cirque de Soleil, the cast of School of Rock from Broadway and hockey players Mark and Marty Owen. Plus I am sure there will be plenty more.
The large helium balloons are always the highlight of the parade. They float down the streets of Manhattan to thousands of spectators. I have a feeling there will be some Angry Birds in the sky due to their new movie coming out and also plenty of Minions and the whole gang from The Peanuts. There are always plenty of Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and all of their friends. Other characters usually include Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Train, Power Rangers and Spiderman.
