The series premiere may have been last night but there are still plenty of Sundays until the season 4 finale on June 15th. There is a wide variety of different families and foods represented in Westeros with the Starks, Targaryens, and Lannisters all enjoying different cuisines. Many people on the social media site Reddit, shared their recipes and we have compiled them all to create the best Game of Thrones party. Here are our suggestions.
Meat Pie
You can’t have a Game of Thrones party without a meat pie! While purists will recommend pigeon, I’m not sure where to find it outside of an Asian market or if less adventurous eaters would touch so it’s best to stick American favorites, beef and bacon. Here is a recipe from The Inn at the Crossroads, an official Game of Thrones food blog
Ingredients:
- Pastry dough enough for 9″ pie pan, top and bottom (Recipe)
- 1 ½ lbs. stew beef cut into small pieces
- ½ cup bacon, diced or cut small
- ½ tsp. pepper (or to taste)
- ½ tsp. salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/3 cup prunes, sliced
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1/3 cup dates, chopped
- ~1 cups beef broth
- 2-3 Tbs. flour
On the stovetop, cook the diced bacon until the fat runs from it; drain off the fat. To the bacon pan, add the beef, spices, vinegar & the fruit. Add enough broth to thoroughly wet the mixture – the final consistency should be runny.
Throw in the flour and cook on low heat until the juices form a sort of gravy.
Let cool. Line a 9-inch pie pan with and fill with the meat mixture. Add a pastry lid or leave open-faced. Bake at 375º F until filling is bubbling and the pastry cooked, approx. 40 minutes.

A nice hearty bread that can be served with a stew this Bread is perfect to be washed down with some sweet wine. This recipe comes courtesy of Epicurious.
Beef & Barley Stew
I don’t know about you but when I think of fantasy food my brain goes directly to stew. There are several different stew recipes I prefer beef or lamb. This recipe from SimplyRecipes is easy enough and requires very little active time.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2-3 pounds beef chuck, cut into chunks
- Salt
- 3 cups chopped onions
- 1 pound button or cremini mushrooms, quartered if small or 1/4-inch sliced
- 1 quart beef or chicken broth
- 3 cups water
- 2 teaspoons dried marjoram
- 1 cup pearl barley
- 1 cup roughly chopped carrot
- 3 cups celery root, peeled and chopped into 3/4-inch to 1-inch chunks
- Black pepper
- About 1/2 cup sour cream (around 1 Tbsp sour cream per serving)
- Dill for garnish
METHOD
1 In a Dutch oven or other large, lidded pot, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add enough pieces of the beef to sear in the pot without crowding. You will need to brown the meat in several batches. Salt the beef as it cooks, and set aside browned pieces in a bowl.
2 When all the beef has browned, add the onions. As the onions release some of their water, use a wooden spoon to scrape any browned bits off the bottom of the pot. Sprinkle a little salt over the onions as they cook. Lower the heat to medium and cook the onions until they begin to brown, 5-6 minutes.
3 When the onions have lightly browned, mix in the mushrooms and increase the heat to high. Cook the mushrooms until they release their water, about 2-3 minutes.
3 Add the beef back to the pot and sprinkle with marjoram. Add 1 cup of the stock and use the wooden spoon to scrape any browned bits off the bottom of the pot. Add the rest of the stock and water and bring to a simmer. Cover the pot, lower the heat to low and simmer very gently for 1 hour.
4 Add the barley, celery root and carrots, stir well and recover the pot. Simmer gently until the barley and celery root are tender, between 40 minutes and an hour.
Ladle servings into bowls, then top with a dollop of sour cream and a few sprigs of dill. Grind a little black pepper over right before you serve. To eat, stir in the sour cream.
Mead
Mead is actually pretty disgusting but if you really want to get in the the spirit of the tv show. You can snag some Mead recipes here but you better start now if you want to have a it ready by the season finale.
Two Roast Chickens
In honor of last night’s episode, I will definitely be making roast chicken for my GOT finale party. If you haven’t seen the episode yet then this might be something of a spoiler. Roast chicken can be a little tough so only try and tackle this one if you have a lot of experience in the kitchen.
