Club soda is made from water with dissolved carbon dioxide gas, which yields carbonic acid. In addition, club soda may also contain either of the following: sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium citrate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulfate or disodium phosphate. These additives may give the club soda its slightly tart taste.
It is important that the ingredients are not mixed but rather poured together as separate layers. The Kahlua has the most sugar and is the densest of the three fluids.
