It sounds like an idea borne from bong rips and watching reruns of MTV.
“Dude, what if we re-made episodes of the Arsenio Hall show, line-for-line with different actors playing the guests.”
I can’t say I haven’t thought of something similar. I’ve always wanted to create a shot for shot remake of Disney’s The Lion King with live actors.
But with Paul Scheer’s “star power” and a bevy of comedian friends he has recreated episodes of the Arsenio Hall show without changing a single line of dialogue from original interview… kind of. In actuality the team producing the show release two episodes a week. One version is word-for-word the original interview with Scheer as Arsenio. The League star surprisingly nails Arsenio’s mannerisms and has actually asked the man himself to do a guest spot on the show. The second version drifts away from the script a bit and features some hilarious improvisation from some of the hottest “alt” comedians around. Here are some of the best episodes so far, paired with their original interview.
Rosie O’Donnell and Madonna
In this episode Alison Brie plays Madonna, Adam Pally plays Rosie and Weird Al makes a cameo as Madonna’s father.
Original interview
Andrew Dice Clay
I have a lot of disdain for Andrew Dice Clay, he’s a misogynist, a racist and worst of all a bad comedian. In this episode Paul’s wife the supremely funny June Diane Raphael plays “The Dice Man” to a tee.
Original interview
Tupac Shakur
Jordan Peele kills it as Tupac in this ridiculous interview
Original interview
Bill Clinton
The first episode of The Arscheerio Paul show does NOT stick to the script but Will Arnett is hilarious as the sax playing former President Clinton
Original Interview
Jean-Claude Van Damme
Nick Kroll as Jean-Claude Van Damme
Original interview.Van Damme is kind of a dick. Starts at 6:45.
