It’s been almost two decades since Bob Odenkirk and David Cross aired the first episode of the groundbreaking sketch comedy series Mr. Show. The HBO series helped launch the careers of a who’s who of comedy including Tom Kenny (The voice of Spongebob), Jilly Talley, Jay Johnston, Scott Adsit, Scott Aukerman, Jack Black, Brian Posehn, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Paul F Tompkins, Sarah Silverman, and Dino Stamatopoulos just to name a few. The show was years ahead of its time and didn’t rely on pop culture references like its contemporary The Ben Stiller Show. Written by Dino Stamatopoulos, better known as Starburns from Community, The Audition is one of the best meta-sketches I’ve seen and I love how just when you think it’s going to end they just push it even further.
