Independence Day is right around the corner so I found it appropriate to discuss the highly anticipated movie, Independence Day Resurgence. The sequel to Independence Day will land in theatres on June 24th, 2016.
The official name of the movie was just announced a few weeks ago along with some other facts about the upcoming movie, which Will Smith will not be starring in. The film will be released 20 years after the first movie, Independence Day, came out in 1996.
Roland Emmerich is the director and Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward will join the cast. Returning for the sequel are Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch. Emmerich has said that the movie takes place in present day, 20 years after the alien attack in the first film. The humans have since come together to organize a global defense system. Goldblum revealed that his character is the director of the organization. Apparently, the group uses alien technology to prevent future alien attacks.
The entertainment industry has improved technology and special effects and is much different from what they had 20 years ago when the original was released. I think the sequel’s story line might fall flat, but the effects will sure be awesome. It will grab the attention of people who saw the first one and also grab the attention of a new generation who may have not seen the first one.
An official trailer has not been released yet, but a photo of the space ship that will be featured in Independence Day Resurgence has surfaced. Some sequels tend to not have the best stories and I am not sure how this sequel will go. I guess we will have to wait and see until the official trailer is released.
