It is every car lover’s dream. The McLaren F1 will be auctioned off in August at the Monterey 2015 Classic Car Auctions in California. The 1998, bright orange, three-seater is one of the coolest cars out there. So how much is the supercar expected to go for? Oh, just $12 million dollars.
Car lovers from across the country have been able to gawk at the beauty at the RM Sotheby’s headquarters in Manhattan before it hits the auction block. The auction will last six days and the McLaren is expected to break a record.
The record for this car model was set in 2013 when a 1997 version of the car was sold for $8.5 million dollars. The McLaren being auctioned off this year is already projected to smash that record by over $3 million dollars.
The supercar’s doors open upwards like wings and boy can it fly. It is the fastest road version of a racecar. Celebrities who are part of the elite club of owning a McLaren include Jay Leno and Ralph Lauren.
The McLaren is part of a private collection that includes some of the world’s best sports cars. The Pinnacle Portfolio, is the single largest private collection brought to the auction with 30 automobiles. The collection is expected to go for over $65 million. The collection includes cars dating back to 57 years ago. Ferraris, Porsches, a ’93 Jaguar XJ220 and even the final gift to the late Pope John Paul II, an Enzo are all part of the collection. The collector has chosen to remain anonymous.
