During the holidays there are many trains across the country that transform into the magical Polar Express or at least something very similar. Families from all over can experience the North Pole and spread the Christmas cheer around. The Polar Express was released in November of 2004 and ever since, it has been part of a lot of families’ holiday traditions. From reading the book to watching the movie to now experiencing it first hand. These spots around the nation have the best trains that take guests on a joyful journey for the holidays.
Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad in Washington: The Santa Express
It may not be the official Polar Express, but the Santa Express is a great time for residents and visitors of Washington. The steam train takes guests through the woodlands of Mount Rainier. It can get very cold, but the ride is well worth it. Tickets always seem to sell out quick, so make sure to make reservations right away. The train offers guests a beautiful view of the area while they can drink cocoa and eat delicious cookies while heading to the North Pole. (Which is actually the city of Elbe) The Santa Express starts on November 28th this year and will be open until December 21st.
Grand Canyon Railway in Arizona: The Polar Express
The Grand Canyon Railway hosts the official Polar Express each year starting in early November and running to January. The train ride is about an hour and takes guests through the beautiful forests of Williams, Arizona and stops at the North Pole. Here kids can see Santa Claus and all of his reindeer. Plus there will be plenty of cookies and hot chocolate and endless Christmas stories and music. The ride takes place in the afternoon and evening and is really a magical time in the heart of Arizona.
Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad/West Virginia Central Railroad in West Virginia: The Polar Express
Another official Polar Express takes places every year throughout November and December at the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad in West Virginia. The train picks up guests at the depot in western Maryland and takes them on an hour trip to the beautiful and snowy North Pole. The weather is usually great for the ride and passengers come in their pajamas and eat goodies and drink hot cocoa. Guests can enjoy music from the movie and watch the dancing chefs as they wait on the guests. Each child receives a silver sleigh bell to take home along with a souvenir mug.
