5 unusual ways to say ‘thank you’

Have you ever had someone do something for you in such a way that simply saying ‘thank you’ just wasn’t enough? Sometimes you need to be a little more creative than just sending a text message or sending a card. According to Radio Canada International, a recent survey revealed that the most popular gifts for moms on Mother’s Day include flowers (46 per cent), cards (39 per cent), meals (27 per cent) and gift cards (25 per cent). Rather than opt for a traditional gift that they will receive all year round, here are five unusual ways to say thank you and mean it this year:

Make a YouTube video Best friends taking selfies

If you’re thanking a friend or family member who lives in another country, rather than sending a card or giving them a call, film a video, upload it on YouTube and send them the link! They’ll be totally surprised and sometimes, actually hearing and seeing someone say thank you can make all the difference. Cards get thrown away and get lost, but they’ll be able to treasure the video forever!

Send a surprise gift basket

Surprise them with a gift basket at the office or arrange a home delivery to show your gratitude. GlitterGiftBaskets have a fantastic array of gifts, or alternatively you could make your own hamper. You could include homemade cookies and candies and decorate them with a special message. Alternatively, these tasteful gifts from Canada.com will go down a treat. You could even fill the basket with pampering products and personalized gifts for the home for a really special present.

Write a letter or a poem

As social media takes over, no one sends letters to each other anymore, and therefore your recipient won’t expect it at all! Why not surprise your friend with a handwritten letter, containing a personal message of love and appreciation? If you’re into your poetry, you could even write your own poem. Your friend will really appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into it.

Treat them to a day out

Say thank you by taking them out shopping at the local mall or treating them to a meal at their favorite restaurant! Depending on the scale of the favor, you could always take them for a spa day or a luxurious night away. If you know they are always super busy, you could always order a pizza and have it delivered to their doorstep. Accompany it with a bottle of wine or some beers and a little thank you note telling them why they deserve this treat!

Give them a shout out on social media

If you’re active on social media and have a strong following, give your friend or family member a great big shout out and tell the world how thankful you are for what they have done! Mention or tag them so they and everyone else can see and be sure to share plenty of photos to commend them!
